Mr. Richardson has been a licensed Communications Contractor for over 30 years and holds active licenses in California and Nevada.
Stocks rose Thursday, as technology companies' outlooks and earnings overshadowed weak economic data.
So far corporate earnings have been beating analysts' lowered expectations. The latest to boost the market, especially tech shares, were IBM's raised full-year outlook, forecast-beating earnings from eBay and Qualcomm's expectations for a "strong December quarter."
But a slew of weaker-than-expected economic data capped gains in the wider market. Manufacturing in the U.S. mid-Atlantic region shrank for a third month and home resales were lower than forecast. Data also showed more Americans applied for unemployment insurance than expected in the latest week.
"Europe has been quiet and earnings news, while not earth-shattering is slightly better than expected," said Fred Dickson, chief market strategist at D.A. Davidson & Co. in Lake Oswego, Oregon. "A trading range environment is how we see it."
Recent lackluster data has had a limited impact on the market as investors increasingly expect the Federal Reserve to step up stimulus efforts, possibly as early as the end of July.
There were also some worrying earnings. Morgan Stanley said quarterly revenue declined due to a slowdown in trading and dealmaking volumes. The company will cut 1,000 employees by the end of this year.
The S&P is at its highest level since early May. Some investors are pointing to a trading range between recent highs above 1,400 and a low in June around 1,280.
"People are focusing on individual stocks after earnings and trying to figure out (through) outlooks how weak the economy really is," said Giri Cherukuri, head trader at OakBrook Investments in Lisle, Illinois.
Qualcomm cut its revenue and earnings forecast for the current quarter but investors took heart as it said sales would improve for a strong last quarter of 2012.
EBay shares jumped after it posted stronger-than-expected quarterly revenue and earnings as more consumers shopped on its online marketplaces and used its PayPal payment service.
Of the 20 percent of S&P 500 companies reporting earnings so far, 65 percent of companies have beaten expectations, slightly better than average since 1994, according to Thomson Reuters data.
"It's impossible to believe that little Miss Gray is two months old already, and it's even more unfathomable that, not too long ago, she wasn't yet in our lives," the actress writes.
George Zimmerman told Fox News Channel host Sean Hannity that he prays for the family of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, whom Zimmerman shot and killed during a confrontation in February.
"I would tell them that again, I'm sorry. My wife and I don't have any children," Zimmerman told Hannity. "I love my children even though they aren't born yet, and I am sorry that they buried their child. I can't imagine what it must feel like, and I pray for them daily."
It is the first public interview Zimmerman has given since the deadly confrontation with Martin on Feb. 26, 2012. Zimmerman reportedly agreed to the interview because his attorney says he hopes it will result in donations to his client's defense fund.
Zimmerman appeared alongside attorney Mark O'Mara wearing a gray suit and buttoned blue shirt. He appeared nervous at times, with sweat forming on his upper lip during the interview.
"I hope it's the most difficult thing I'll go through in my life," Zimmerman said of the confrontation.
Several new details about the incident emerged during the interview.
Early on, Hannity asked Zimmerman if he carried the gun used in the shooting with him at all times. "I carried it at all times, except when I went to work," Zimmerman said.
Yet, in a surprising revelation, Zimmerman claimed to have never heard of Florida's controversial Stand Your Ground law that has been at the center of the case.
Zimmerman also strongly denied referring to Martin with a racial slur during his 9-1-1 call to police. When Hannity asked if Zimmerman remembers what he said, Zimmerman nodded and smirked. "Punks," he said. "I can tell you that when the police played it for me at the station, it was clear as day."

Later in the interview, Zimmerman gave a detailed account of the physical confrontation with Martin that led up to the shooting. Zimmerman claims that Martin punched him in the nose as Zimmerman reached for his phone.
"He started bashing my head into the concrete sidewalk. As soon as he broke my nose, I started yelling for help. I was disoriented," Zimmerman said, saying Martin punched him more than a dozen times.
"I didn't know what would happen at that point," Zimmerman continued. "I would try and sit up and push myself down. Whenever I would sit up he would take the opportunity to slam my head down and punch me in the nose."
When Hannity asked if Zimmerman was talking to him during the confrontation, Zimmerman said yes and claims Martin verbally threatened to kill him.
"[He was] cursing and telling me to shut up and telling me he was going to kill me," Zimmerman said.
"After we were on the ground, I shimmied with him on top of me," Zimmerman said. "After he couldn't hit my head on the ground anymore, he tried to suffocate me."
"He said, 'You're going to die tonight.' He took one hand off and I felt it going down my side toward my holster," Zimmerman said.
"At that point, I realized that it wasn't my gun, it wasn't his gun, it was the gun," he said.
However, Zimmerman claims that he initially thought he missed Martin after drawing his gun and firing.? When asked what he most wants the public to know in the aftermath of the shooting, Zimmerman said, "I'm not a racist and I'm not a murderer."
When asked for Martin's reaction, Zimmerman said at first he didn't realize Martin had been shot. "He said something to the effect of 'you got it, you got me.'"
When asked if he would do anything differently in hindsight, Zimmerman said no. "I feel that it was all God's plan and for me to second-guess or judge it?" he said, trailing off.
Zimmerman told Hannity that he fears for his life and said that media critics including filmmaker Spike Lee and MSNBC host Al Sharpton owe him an apology.
"I can't guess to what their motives were. I would just ask for an apology," Zimmerman said. "If I did something that was wrong, I would apologize."
But by the end of the Fox interview, it was Zimmerman who turned to the camera and asked for forgiveness.
"I do wish that there was something, anything, I could have done that wouldn't have put me in a position where I had to take his life.
"I want to tell everyone, my wife, my family, my parents, my grandmother, the Martins, the city of Sanford, and America that I'm sorry that this happened," he said, staring straight into the camera lens. "I hate to think that because of this incident, because of my actions, its polarized and divided America. And I'm truly sorry."
Reverse Cell Phone Lookup?has become a popular service these days. Due to that, Reverse Phone Detective has just released a free service which lets visitors check the residential and business phone lookups online for free, including toll-free numbers, on recently redesigned site?reversephonelookup4u.com.
In fact, phone number lookup helps a lot when someone gets a residential phone number but has no idea who the number belongs to or what address it relates to. Using a Reverse Phone Detective any individual can easily find out those details. This can obviously be very useful in situations where people have lost contact with someone but still have a record of their phone number, or simply wish to verify who owns the number before mistakenly phoning the wrong number.
The?reverse phone lookup service, provided by Reverse Phone Detective, lets visitors enter-in a phone number and immediately lookup who it is registered to. Perhaps visitors missed an incoming phone call and want to know who it is before they call back. Right after they type a phone number into the search box, a white pages reverse lookup will show exactly who it is registered to, with the registrant?s first and last name, and mailing address. This was next to impossible to do when the White Pages were the primary source of contact information. All the information in the book was listed alphabetically by name.
Reverse Phone Detective also offers?reverse cell phone lookup, as well as information on land lines. It even provides information on unlisted numbers that would be charged as pay-per-lookup or a one time membership fee. The membership fee options will offer free reverse cell phone lookup for as long as the membership lasts. This may be a great deal if an individual thinks they will be utilizing the service on regular basis.
Some of the features included with the phone number lookup searches include:
1) Confidentiality of the searcher. 2) Easy to use interface with type and search ability. 3) High database of numbers. 4) Free basic information like phone carrier, location. 5) Option for single search and unlimited searches for entire year.
Japan seems to have a blatantly sexist attitude toward the travel accommodations for some of its athletes.
According to the Telegraph, Japan had its women's soccer team fly economy class from Tokyo to Paris this week while the men's soccer team has flown business class to the Olympics since the 1996 Summer Games.
Some of the women are peeved at the difference.
"I guess it should have been the other way around," Homare Sawa (pictured) told reporters after arriving in Paris on Monday.
"Even just in terms of age, we are senior," the 33-year-old captain of the women's team said.
The BBC reports that the Japan Football Association has been funding the upgraded flights for the men. The men reportedly receive the special treatment because they are considered professionals while the women are considered semi-pro.
The women's team was upgraded to "premium economy" because they won the World Cup last year, but it's still not the same as the men flying business.
Most Japanese athletes fly economy class unless they are upgraded because of large size or other exceptions. The women's team had its return flight to Japan upgraded to business class last year after they won the World Cup, so they're figuring the only way they can get equal treatment is by having an excellent showing at the Olympics. But that shouldn't have to be the case.
Are the men's medals at the Olympics more valuable than the women's? Or are all medals worth the same? Last time I checked they were valued equally, so the treatment of the teams and athletes should be the same.

Dailymotion claims to be the second-largest video platform in the world, but it's dwarfed by YouTube, in terms of the number of video views it gets. And even though it's still solvent (but on its way to being fully owned by French telecom Orange), Dailymotion has finally realized that there's not a whole lot of money to be made in ad-supported video. And so it's diversifying, taking a step that many other video sites have took many years earlier, and creating a white-label distribution platform for video publishers. The new product, Dailymotion Cloud, will let anyone upload and host their videos in a fully customizable video player, with the ability to distribute those files to a variety of connected devices. It will basically handle everything from ingest and encoding to delivery, and includes support for DRM and advertising, as well as real-time analytics and the ability to syndicate to third-party video sites.

Another day, another FCC filing. This time, though, the documents on offer aren't tipping us off to the impending arrival of some wunderphone - it's just Sony's recently outed Xperia tipo. The diminutive 3.2-incher - set for an official Euro bow this August - is no screamer with its 480 x 320 TFT display and lone 800MHz Snapdragon CPU. The ICS handset's real claim to fame is its availability in single- and dual-SIM flavors. And based on the radios outlined in the corresponding Commission docs - GPRS/EDGE/GSM 850 and 1900; WCDMA 850 and 1900 - this modest phone could see a low-end berth on AT&T. Excited? Neither are we. Still, you can peruse the user manual, take a tour of the phone's inner workings and parse through dense legalese at the source link below.

Research paper wins prestigious award from American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine
A new Hospital for Special Surgery study suggests that the current rehabilitation used for patients undergoing tendon-bone repairs such as rotator cuff repair may be partially to blame for the high rates of failed healing after surgery. Experiments in a rat model of this injury suggest that immobilizing the limb for four to six weeks after surgery, rather than quickly starting physical therapy, improves healing.
"Before we did this study, we thought that delaying motion for a short period of time, seven to ten days, and then starting physical therapy would be the most beneficial to tendon healing. However, from the data in this study, it appears we should be immobilizing our patients for longer periods of time," said Scott Rodeo, M.D., principal investigator of the study and co-chief of the Sports Medicine and Shoulder Service at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City.
Carolyn Hettrich, M.D., MPH, who was an HSS resident when she conducted the study, will present the study July 14 at the annual meeting of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), held in Baltimore.
The rotator cuff is a set of a four small muscles in the shoulder that allow the upper arm to rotate. When a rotator cuff is torn, the tendon part of the muscle tears away from the bone of the upper arm. During a repair surgery, a surgeon reattaches the tendon to the bone and a surgery's success is dependent on how well the interface between the tendon and bone heals. Studies have shown that 20%-40% of patients undergoing rotator cuff surgery have failed healing. These patients have poorer outcomes, including decreased strength and decreased range of motion.
Rehabilitation after rotator cuff surgery usually consists of immobilizing the shoulder in a sling for seven to ten days, physical therapy with passive and assisted motion for six weeks, followed by physical therapy with active motion for six weeks. However, there is little data on the optimum rehabilitation program, and clinicians recognize there is a delicate balance between minimizing movement after surgery to protect the repair and allowing movement to prevent joint stiffness.
To explore the timing of post-operative rehabilitation, investigators at HSS conducted experiments using a rat model of patellar tendon injury and repair. The investigators used a small metal frame to hold the joint in place and then used a specially designed motorized device to precisely apply loads of strain. One group of rats received a low load 50 times per day (analogous to a leg extension with no weight), another group received a moderate load 50 times per day and a third group had their joint immobilized for the entire study period. The animals were studied at 4, 10, 21, and 28 days.
The researchers found that rats that had their joint immobilized had the best healing with significantly less fibrocartilage or scar tissue than rats in the other two groups. Scar tissue is weaker than original tissue, and oftentimes scar tissue forms at the interface between bone and tendon during tendon repair surgery. The rats that were immobilized also had better connective tissue organization, higher load to failure, better bone mineral density, and fewer dead cells in the area that was operated on. During the healing and inflammatory process, there is a regeneration and remodeling of tissues, which sometimes involves cell death that can lead to inflammation.
"Very surprisingly, all of the data supported immobilization. The biomechanics, the histology, everything," said Dr. Hettrich. "The rats that were immobilized and didn't have any load through that period of healing did the best. This study suggests that we might want to consider immobilizing human patients for a little bit longer to let some of the post operative inflammation calm down, because excess inflammation might be having a harmful effect."
The investigators suggest that the best path to recovery for patients undergoing rotator cuff surgery might be to keep individuals in slings for six weeks and then start with passive motion therapy. However, studies are needed in humans to test this hypothesis and make firm clinical recommendations.
Dr. Hettrich is now an assistant professor of orthopedics in sports medicine at the University of Iowa. Dr. Rodeo's laboratory will be presented with the Cabaud award for the study at the annual AOSSM meeting. The award is given to the best basic science/laboratory research paper at the meeting.

A German court decision branding the Muslim and Jewish rite of circumcising baby boys a criminal act has left disbelief, outrage and serious legal questions in its wake.
A cartoon in Sunday's edition of Berlin daily Tagesspiegel cast the dispute over the ruling published last month as a high-stakes struggle between religious beliefs and European secular values.
Sitting on a cloud, God reads about the Cologne court's judgement then telephones Allah and Jehovah, saying: "We've got to talk -- the atheists are getting more and more full of themselves."
The ruling said circumcision of male infants on religious grounds was tantamount to grievous bodily harm, a criminal act.
It concerned a case brought against a doctor who had circumcised a four-year-old Muslim boy in line with his parents' wishes.
When, a few days after the operation, the boy suffered heavy bleeding, prosecutors charged the doctor.
The court later acquitted the doctor himself of causing harm but judged that "the right of a child to keep his physical integrity trumps the rights of parents" to observe their religion, potentially setting a precedent.
European Muslim and Jewish groups have banded together to criticise the ruling, with the support of top Christian clerics, and called on German MPs to pass legislation protecting the practice.
A recent poll on the issue shows that 56 percent of Germans agree with the court -- among them Georg Ehrmann, president of German children's charity Deutsche Kinderhilfe.
"Religious communities should share in the consensus that a minor should have the right to an undamaged childhood," he said.
But 35 percent of people believe the ruling is wrong.
This clash of cultures, known as "Kulturkampf" in German, has filled column inches in recent days.
And German diplomats admit the decision has been "disastrous" for the image of the country abroad, amid international outcry over the ruling.
"The Cologne ruling is very troubling to us since circumcision is one of the rites Jews died for over generations," Israeli Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi Yona Metzger said.
"I am very concerned we will revert back to 500-600 years ago and conduct circumcisions in secret. I hope the issue will be resolved in Germany through legislation."
Israeli Public Diplomacy Minister Yuli Edelstein told AFP that "from the Jewish perspective, a circumcision ban is the most severe prohibition possible," compared to other bans such as on ritual slaughter.
"If we let this pass (in Germany), there will be no way to stop it from spreading to other European states."
Edelstein, however, noted the "positive potential" to the ruling as it applies to Muslims and Jews alike.
"It could happen that joint action on this could do something to bring the two communities closer, and possibly prevent anti-Semitism from extreme Islamist elements."
Edelstein mentioned two debates held in Israel's parliament over the issue, one joined by the German envoy to Israel, and recent meetings Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin held in Germany with members of the Bundestag lower house.
"I have the impression the German side understands it is not appropriate for Germany to prohibit circumcisions," Edelstein said.
Early on German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle tried to calm the storm, writing on his Twitter account: "We have to be clear: religious traditions are protected in Germany."
Germany is home to around four million Muslims -- many of whom are of Turkish origin -- and more than 200,000 Jews, as the country has seen a flourishing of Jewish life more than six decades after the Holocaust.
Both Muslims and Jews practise circumcision though the Koran does not impose it, unlike the Torah which says the procedure must be done before the eighth day of a child's life.
Neither wants to have to wait until a child turns 14, the age of religious majority, when he can decide for himself.
Unsure of its legal standing, Germany's chief medical association has advised doctors who routinely perform circumcisions on baby boys on behalf of parents citing religious grounds to refrain.
"We are trying to explain the court's decision but parents are completely confused, they don't get it at all," Gerhard Nerlich, spokesman at Berlin's Jewish Hospital, told AFP.
The facility performs 70-80 circumcisions a year for religious reasons, a third of which are on Jewish boys and the rest on Muslim children.
"It's very surprising and bewildering. We tell people we're really sorry, we have been performing circumcisions for years but now we can't do it any more," said Nerlich.
Religious groups say they they feel excluded from German society.
"Every country in the world" respects the right to circumcision, said Dieter Graumann, president of the Central Council of Jews, calling the ruling "scandalous".
For Muslims, the judgement is another example of Germany overstepping the mark after rows over animal slaughter and the Islamic headscarf.
"Germany must recognise the diversity that exists in this country, that Muslims, Islam are part of the country, of society," said Ramazan Kuruyuz, who took part in a conference of Muslim groups on the issue in Cologne this month.
This is number two in my series of blogs on epigenetic control of genome restructuring and hereditary transmission of traits modified by life history events. We are going to take a detour through some classic bacterial genetics history, but it will ultimately bring us back, with new insights, to the kind of epigenetic regulation covered in the previous blog.
One of the strictest dogmas in conventional evolutionary thinking is the explicitly anti-Lamarckist assertion that conditions cannot induce a related genetic change. To quote an unimpeachable orthodox spokesman, my University of Chicago colleague Jerry Coyne:
In fact, we know of no evidence for mutations occurring nonrandomly or "adaptively", i.e., that the occurrence of mutations is somehow biased in a direction that makes them more likely to be favorable when they arise, particularly when the environment changes in a way that requires favorable mutations to fuel adaptive evolution.
The empirical evidence against experience-related genome change is remarkably thin. Textbooks present the famous 1943 Luria-Delbr?ck experiment as the definitive demonstration that mutations must occur prior to selection.
Salvador Luria and Max Delbr?ck, who received Nobel Prizes for their pioneering roles in molecular genetics, set out to test whether virus infection could induce mutations to resistance.
The analysis was statistical in nature. (Their paper even includes an elaborate mathematical appendix by Delbr?ck, a converted theoretical physicist.) The argument was as follows. If infection induced mutations to virus resistance with a certain low probability, then both different samples from one culture and samples from independent cultures should display similar numbers of colonies that would fit some form of normal (Gaussian) distribution.
They set up a large number of independent cultures of bacteria, divided them each into multiple samples, infected all samples with viruses that killed infected cells, and measured the frequency (proportion) of resistant mutant bacteria in each sample that could produce a colony in the presence of the lethal viruses.
What they found was that the replicas of single cultures did produce normal distributions of resistant colony numbers, as expected, but the colony numbers from one culture bore no statistical relationship to the other independent cultures. Some cultures produced very low numbers of colonies, while others displayed "jackpots" of high frequencies of resistant cells.
They correctly interpreted this deviation from a normal culture-to-culture distribution of mutant frequencies to provide evidence for the stochastic occurrence of rare mutations to virus resistance at different times in the growth of each culture prior to selection. Early mutations would multiply into many resistant progeny (high mutant frequency), while later-occurring mutations would produce smaller populations of resistant progeny (low mutant frequency).
Given the lethal nature of the selecting virus Luria and Delbr?ck used, there was in fact no other possible outcome. Infection was invariably lethal, and only preexisting resistant mutants could survive. Nonetheless, this experiment was cited for over six decades as proof that virus infection could not induce a genetic change to resistance.
One has to be careful with the word "proof" in science. I always said that conventional evolutionists were hanging a very heavy coat on a very thin peg in the way they cited Luria and Delbr?ck. The peg broke in the first decade of this century.
Bacterial genomicists noted some curious structures in the DNA sequences of many different bacterial species. They were called CRISPRs, for "clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats." The structures had groups of inverted repeat sequences ("palindromic repeats") arranged near each other in a short region of the bacterial DNA.
Although their meaning was not known at first, the regularity of the CRISPRs made them literally pop out of the computer analysis. The functional significance of the CRISPRs became clearer when the non-repeat "spacer" segments separating the inverted repeats were analyzed. They contained short sequences from viruses, plasmids, and other types of invasive DNA. It looked like the CRISPR might serve as a kind of DNA memory bank for past infections of the bacterial cell.
Perhaps the CRISPR system provided not only memory but defense against infectious DNA. This idea was tested by infecting bacterial cells with viruses that are not invariably lethal, and it was found to be correct. The surviving bacteria had new repeats and spacers in their CRISPRs, and the spacers contained DNA sequence fragments from the infecting viruses.
The "impossible" had happened. By a still-unknown mechanism, the bacterial cell managed to insert a short sequence from the infecting virus in its genome's CRISPR region and use that newly acquired information to block the infection. There is now evidence that the CRISPR defense works by encoding a small interfering RNA molecule (siRNA) and using that siRNA to guide cleavage of the invading DNA.
This remarkable CRISPR genome immunity system is an example of the general, recently discovered process known as "RNA interference," or RNAi. RNAi regulates genome expression in eukaryotic cells by targeting the destruction of transcripts from coding sequence, but RNAi also targets the formation of silenced chromatin and so blocks transcription in the first place.
For examples, RNAi can target silencing of specific genetic loci in genetically modified plants. A striking case involves the FWA ("flowering arrested") locus in Arabidopsis. Normally, FWA expression is imprinted to be off in all tissues of the plant except the seeds. But a stable FWA epimutation can occur so that FWA is expressed in all plant tissues, which delays flowering. By inserting a transgene encoding an siRNA that recognizes a retrotransposon at the start of FWA, expression can be silenced, so that the normal flowering pattern is restored in a stable heritable fashion, even when the siRNA transgene is removed.
RNAi serves as an acquired antiviral defense system in eukaryotes, as well. In Drosophila and other animals, there are analogues to the bacterial CRISPRs called "piRNA loci." These loci contain acquired fragments of retroviruses and other mobile genetic elements and encode germline-specific piRNAs that keep the genomic copies of those elements in a silent state. As we shall see in the next blog, this germline-specific piRNA-targeted epigenetic control is key to understanding how life history events activate natural genetic engineering.
