Starbucks to open first India store by end of October 2012

Starbucks Coffee in partnership with its Indian joint venture partner Tata Global Beverages will open its first store in India by the end of October 2012.

The proposed outlet will come up in the Horniman Circle area of Mumbai and will feature feature espresso sourced and roasted locally from India, as per the coffee chain's sourcing and roasting agreement with Tata Coffee.

Tata Global Beverages CEO Harish Bhat remarked that the venture is consistent with the company's strategy of growing through strategic alliances besides organic growth.

Starbucks China and Asia Pacific president John Culver added, "This is the first step Starbucks and Tata Coffee Limited are taking toward developing and improving the profile of Indian-grown arabica coffees around the world by elevating the stature of Indian coffee, as well as improving the quality of coffee through sustainable practices."

The company has appointed Avani Saglani Davda as chief executive officer of their joint venture with Tata Starbucks set to own and operate Starbucks caf?s in India.

Starbucks currently operates over 17,000 stores worldwide.
