Darkness played a role in the final match of the PSAL girls' golf regular season Tuesday, but it had little effect on the eventual outcome, a 2?-2? Tottenville tie with McKee/S.I. Tech that let the Pirates end the season undefeated.

Tottenville finished the season at 11-0-1 and MSIT at 10-1-1.

The Pirates and Sea Gulls teed off at South Shore at 4 p.m., and despite using a modified shotgun start, darkness intervened at the end.

Hannah Youssef got MSIT off to a rather quick start with a birdie win at the third hole and a par win at the fourth against Tottenville's top player, April Mintz.

Youssef halved the fifth and sixth holes and darkness ended the match with a win for MSIT.

Tottenville's impressive freshman Angela Masseria, playing in the No. 2 spot, had little trouble eliminating Ashley Grado, also in six holes.

Farther back on the course, it was Maria Resavage chalking up a win for Tottenville at the expense of Alara Arpaci while MSIT bounced back with Vinuri Ranaweena defeating Sabrina Bilotto to level the contest at 2-2.

Although they were hardly visible coming up the dark seventh fairway at the Huguenot course, No. 3 players Bryana Yelverton of Tottenville and MSIT's Marissa Kanakos were dead even just like the contest.

Coaches Demetrios Haronitis and Jessica Ragucci debated whether to call the match halved or go for the tie-breaker.

With the eighth hole just 140 yards away, they went for the "night golf" decision, spreading out and listening for each tee shot to land. Both players managed to make a double-bogey on the hole and all participants called it a day without a single mention of trying to play the 500-yard 9th hole.
